Retro Studios Canceled Zelda Gets New Details

Retro Studios is known to Nintendo fans for the team behind the Metroid Prime series, but the developer has made several attempts to work on Zelda as well. Last year, it was revealed that the developer had released a Zelda-focused game on an elder, but now Do you know the games He pulled the curtain on another game, which Retro introduced to Nintendo in 2004. The game was to be released on the Nintendo DS, and the stadium drew a lot of inspiration from Final Fantasy Tactics. The game titled “Heroes of Hyrule” has not been officially approved by Nintendo, so development has never gone beyond the planning stages.

The video from DidYouKnowGaming detailing Heroes of Hyrule can be found embedded below.

Like the team’s Sheik Stadium, Heroes of Hyrule wasn’t going to put players into the role of Link. Instead, players would take on the role of a boy named Cory who discovers a mysterious book. 100 years before the events of the game, Zelda is captured by Ganon, and after trying to free her, Link is also captured. However, three of Link’s friends, Goron (Dunar), Rito (Seriph), and Zora (Krel), team up to save him. Each hero would represent one side of the Triforce. After saving the day, Gannon retreats to a mystical incantation book, but his spirit is interrupted. Unable to burn the book, the heroes rip pages and scatter them across the floor in an attempt to prevent Ganon from returning.

The game would have started in traditional Zelda style, with players controlling Cory. After discovering the book, Cory begins reading about Hyrule’s past. During these parts, the game will transform into a strategy-inspired gameplay, which would have made up about two-thirds of the adventure. The other third was to focus on Cory completing quests for people around town in exchange for more book pages, unaware that rebuilding it would lead to Ganon’s return.

All of this information has been contained in a 22-page presentation obtained by DidYouKnowGaming. From everything in the video, it looks like it could have been very promising, but it clearly wasn’t meant to be. However, Zelda fans should definitely watch it!
