Disney deals with Dish Network to take back ESPN and ABC

Disney channels and content will return to Dish Network and Sling TV just a day after a transfer dispute resulted in Dish/Sling customers losing access to Walt Disney Company-owned TV channels. On September 30, 20 Disney TV stations—including ABC, ESPN, FX, Disney Channel, and National Geographic—disappeared after the two companies. The controversy came as Disney’s ABC is airing episodes of fan-favourite series such as Abbott Elementary And the Big Sky: Deadly Tracksand disrupting sports fans’ access to the NFL and MLB on ESPN.

On Saturday, Dish alerted its customers that its contract with The Walt Disney Company had expired on Twitter, and Dish said its “goal and priority is to reach a fair agreement to return their channels as quickly as possible.”

“Disney has taken advantage of its market position to increase fees without regard to the general viewing experience,” Brian Nealon, executive vice president and group head at Dish TV, said in a statement Saturday. “It’s clear that Disney insists on prioritizing greed over American viewers, especially sports fans, families with children, and those who watch their content.”

In their Saturday statement, a Disney spokesperson said, “After months of good faith negotiating, Dish declined to reach a fair, market-based agreement with us to continue distributing our networks. The rates and terms we are seeking reflect the market and have been the basis for many successful deals with pay-TV providers. of all types and sizes across the country. We are committed to finding a fair solution, and urge Dish to work with us to reduce customer disruption.”

Disgruntled customers who tried to access ABC, ESPN, FX, and other Disney channels during the Dish blackout saw a message that read: “Our contract with Disney has ended. Our goal and priority is to reach an agreement with Disney that ensures you get the best possible value from Dish. We are working on Return your channels ASAP.”
