Nursing home abuse: 86-year-old hospitalized after manhandled at Solidago Health and Rehabilitation in Texas City, video shows!

Texas City, Texas (KTRK) – A family speaks exclusively to ABC13 after their grandfather was caught on camera being abused by staff at a Texas City nursing facility.

The alleged incident occurred Sunday evening at approximately 5 p.m. at Solidago Health and Reification at 1700 block north of Logan.

The man’s granddaughter, who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals, said the facility called her family to tell them the 86-year-old had fallen out of bed.

That wasn’t what she saw when she looked at the video from the camera her family had installed in his room.

She said he actually snuck out of his bed, and then was abused by two facility workers.

She said, “I was angry for a second. I had time to calm down, and I was speechless.” “I know this is already happening, but I didn’t think it would happen to my grandfather.”

She added that the family had had a camera installed in his room due to previous incidents with Solidago Health and Rehabilitation staff.

The facility was previously called The Resort at Texas City, but officials told Eyewitness News that it was known as Solidago Health and Reareness for the past year.

They sent ABC13 the following statement in response to the video:

“The health and safety of our residents remains our top priority. Our thoughts are with the resident and family. Solidago Health and Reification enforces strict policies prohibiting patient abuse. Immediate action has been taken to ensure the safety of our residents. Any violations of the abuse policy are reported to appropriate legal agencies and authorities and the facility operates properly. Close with those agencies.”

The man’s family said they filed a police report with the Texas City Police Department. At the moment, it is not known if any charges will be brought.

The grandfather in the center of this video is still in the hospital with bruised eyes and other injuries, and his family said his time in Soledago ended after Sunday’s incident.

His granddaughter said, “He will be moved.”
