Minnesota Vikings rookie Louis Ceni broke his leg in London against the New Orleans Saints. He will remain there to rehabilitate from his injury for the time being.
Cine’s injury occurred towards the end of the first quarter of the International Vikings competition, which they eventually won, 28-25. Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell was visibly emotional in the wake of the said injury.
Minnesota applied a pneumatic mold to Cine in the field, and he was immediately rushed to the hospital.
“A very difficult moment for our team,” O’Connell said, per ESPN. “[Cine is] Obviously a guy who, from day one, has been a personal favorite of mine and does everything we asked. He was continuing to progress in his rookie year and had a really dynamic role for us on special teams.”
Vikings give an update on Lewis Cine: he’s still in London
The team’s PR staff released a statement regarding putting Cine forward:
“After sustaining an injury in yesterday’s game, Louis Ceni was immediately taken to a local hospital where he underwent a successful preparatory operation before surgery scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, October 4th. After the surgery, Louis will remain in London to continue his first steps in the recovery process before returning to Minnesota in Good time. A member of the Vikings medical staff will also remain in London until Lewis returns. Coach Kevin O’Connell and members of the Vikings organization have been in frequent contact with Lewis, who is in high spirits.”
Cine was the Vikings’ first-round pick last year, and he sustained a knee injury at a training camp. It was a tough first year in the former NFL for the Georgia Bulldog.
