Philadelphia – The Philadelphia Zoo, chartered in 1859, is the first zoo in America.

It was designed to be a place where Philadelphians could come and appreciate wildlife from all over the world. But it has a scary secret: it is believed to be haunted.

A building known as The Solitude is located on the grounds of the zoo.

Solitude was built before the zoo was established in 1784 for John Penn, grandson of William Penn, as a way to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

Today, several zoo employees report seeing apparitions, the sound of music being played in the cryptoporticus, and a light in the attic that loves to turn itself on.

Other buildings on the grounds where paranormal activity is suspected are the Penrose Laboratory, the Shelley Building, and Treehouse.
