Overwatch fans are counting down the release of Overwatch 2 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. The much-anticipated Overwatch sequel has an October 4 release date and 8pm BST release time for fans living in the UK. In preparation for release and for the transition to the free-to-play model, Blizzard will take the original Overwatch game offline at 5 PM GMT on October 3. Global Overwatch 2 launch times can be found below.

Overwatch 2 is launching alongside the season-based Battle Pass system used in fellow free games like Fortnite.

Season 1 runs from October 4 to December 5. It adds three new heroes, six new maps, an all-new game mode, and a battle card.

The Battle Pass includes over 30 new skins (including a legendary skin), as well as new emotes, weapon amulets, poses, and more. Some items will be available for free, while others will only be available to Premium Battle Pass owners.

Similar rewards will be available as part of Season 2, including an all-new tank character. You can take a closer look at the Premium Battle Pass and some Season 1 rewards below…

• Instant access to Kiriko

• Battle card boosted by 20%

• 1 legendary skin

• 5 legendary skins and 1 epic skin

• 6 poses

• 6 name cards

• 30+ Bonus Cosmetics

Returning players will also receive additional items as part of the Founder’s Pack, which is available if you purchase the original Overwatch before June 23, 2022.

The Founder’s Pack contains two legendary skins, an exclusive icon, and instant access to the new Overwatch 2 hero, Kiriko. Anyone who plays Overwatch 2 at any time during Season 1 will also get a free Junker Queen and Sojourn.

If you’re planning to try Overwatch 2 on PC, it’s a good idea to pre-load the game now. Console users will have to wait for the servers to go online.

Elsewhere, Blizzard has given new and returning players a checklist of things to do before launch.

If you haven’t already, the most important thing is to create a free Battle.net account.

As part of the company’s new Defense Matrix initiative, players will also need to register a phone number in their Battle.net account. (Instructions can be found above.)

According to Blizzard, the Defense Matrix initiative will improve the Overwatch experience by reducing toxic behavior and identifying and subsequently banning cheaters.

Blizzard further explains: “SMS Protect brings meaningful change when it comes to disruptive gameplay. This extra layer of security is an industry-proven solution in combating both cheating and disruptive behaviour, further protecting your Overwatch 2 experience from bad actors.

Your account security is important, and SMS Protect helps verify your account ownership in the event of an unexpected account hack.

Likewise, if a troublesome player is suspended or banned, SMS Protect makes it more difficult for them to return to the game.
