Overwatch DOWN: Overwatch is a dead game – offline maintenance schedule for Overwatch 2 | Games | entertainment

It’s a bittersweet day for Overwatch fans, as Blizzard gears up to shut down the game in preparation for the launch of Overwatch 2. If you’ve been playing Overwatch since the early days, consider this one last chance to warn you to play the game before the sequel goes live on October 4. Overwatch’s servers will be taken offline at 5pm UK time on October 3. The servers will remain down until the launch of Overwatch 2 at 8 PM GMT on Tuesday night.

“It’s no small feat launching a video game! To do this for Overwatch 2, we’ll be shutting down the current version of Overwatch starting around 9:00 AM PDT on October 3,” a Blizzard blog post read.

“This means that October 2nd is your last full day to play the original Overwatch! Thank you for playing and supporting as we celebrate Overwatch entering a bright and exciting new era.”

To make the transition between the original Overwatch and its sequel a little easier, Blizzard is asking fans to share their favorite memories of the popular team-based shooter.

If you want to get involved, just share your stories on Twitter using the hashtag “SeeYouOnTheOtherSide!”.

We’re celebrating our transition to the next chapter with #SeeYouOnTheOtherSide! Use the hashtag to share your favorite memories from Overwatch 1 and see what the future holds!

“It highlights the gameplay, your favorite cinematography, and the funny story – we want to see it all.”

Returning players will have access to the Founder’s Pack, which contains two legendary skins, an exclusive icon, and new Overwatch 2 hero Kiriko.

To get the Founder’s Pack, you’ll need to purchase the original Overwatch before June 23, 2022. You have until December 5, 2022 to claim bonus items.

If you need any additional motivation to log into Overwatch 2, Blizzard has confirmed that anyone who plays during Season 1 will automatically receive Junker Queen and Sojourn.

Blizzard further explains: “As a reminder, everyone who logs in during Season 1 will automatically receive heroes Junker Queen and Sojourn, whether they are new or returning players.

“Players who own the original Overwatch will also receive Kiriko through the Founder’s Pack, which can be claimed by logging in at any time before the end of Season 2. If you currently have a Founders image in-game, you are already a claimant of the Founder’s Pack.”

Another thing worth noting is that players will need to register a phone number in their Battle.net account in order to play. (Instructions can be found below.)

The SMS Protection requirement is part of the new Blizzard Defense Matrix initiative, which aims to better identify cheaters and saboteurs players.

Blizzard further explains: “SMS Protect brings meaningful change when it comes to disruptive gameplay. This extra layer of security is an industry-proven solution in combating both cheating and disruptive behaviour, further protecting your Overwatch 2 experience from bad actors.

Your account security is important, and SMS Protect helps verify your account ownership in the event of an unexpected account hack.

Likewise, if a troublesome player is suspended or banned, SMS Protect makes it more difficult for them to return to the game.

Finally, PC users can apply for the bundle by preloading Overwatch 2 now. Simply head over to Battle.net, log in and download the game client. Console users can download the game at launch.
