Ryan Coogler has stopped directing after Chadwick Boseman’s death

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler has spoken of his grief over movie star Chadwick Boseman, who died in August 2020 after a private battle with colon cancer. In an interview with Entertainment WeeklyThe director said that Bosman’s death prompted him to reconsider continuing his career in the entertainment industry.

“I was at a point where I felt like, ‘I’m getting away from this work,'” Coogler stated. “I didn’t know if I could do another film period.” [or] Another Black Panther movie, because it hurts so much. I was like, “Man, how can I open myself up to feeling like this again?”

Coogler went on to explain that he spent the following weeks visiting footage of him with Bosman, who saw him as chief creative assistant and the protagonist of “Black Panther.” Returning to memories of his relationship with the actor, the director sets out to rediscover his passion for the kingdom of Wakanda and its narrative possibilities.

“I was reflecting on a lot of the conversations we had, towards what I realized was the end of his life,” Coogler continued. “I decided it made sense to continue.”

Coogler is back to direct Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which follows the characters performed by returning cast members Angela Bassett, Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danny Gurira, and Winston Duke, as they confront the death of Bosman King Tishala. .

In September, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige explained that it was “too early” to recast T’Challa’s role in the wake of Boseman’s death: “The world is still processing Chad’s loss. And Ryan poured that into the story.”

‘Wakanda Forever’ released its second trailer on Monday morning, revealing the villain Namor (Tenoch Huerta) who soared through the sky and harassed the character who would take the mantle of the Black Panther. The film arrives in theaters on November 11th.
