It’s officially the end of an era for Chicago BD, with Jesse Lee Soffer confirmed to exit the NBC series. Soffer has been playing Detective Jay Halstead since the second season premiere Chicago fireHe has appeared in all episodes of the show Chicago BD So far, the news of his exit has made some fans upset. Soffer’s exit from the series was confirmed in late August — and in this week’s episode, we’re finally able to find out what his exit means. Spoilers for the final episode of Chicago BD, “Good man” below! Just see if you want to know!
The episode begins with the kind of unexpected rift that Halstead has with his wife, Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridacus) – a complication when they both end up at the scene of an active heist at a local drugstore. During the ordeal, Halstead meets a good Samaritan named Lenny who helps at the scene, but is shot while trying to save a pregnant passerby. Lenny is hospitalized, and it is revealed that he is in fact part of the crew that robbed the pharmacy – something Halstead is required to keep his secret.
Halstead agrees, and eventually ends up in a fight with one of the other criminals in an attempt to clear Lenny’s name, stabbing him in self-defense. Soon, Upton and Voight (Jason Peggy) arrived, witnessed the ordeal and set up an argument to cover up what really happened. Guilt about this eventually engulfs Halstead, who decides to surrender his badge and resign. He meets Upton, and tells her he’s going to start over as an army chief in Bolivia, and work with a squad to crack down on drug cartels. Then he meets again with Voight at the airport, and leaves to start his new life.
