Today, Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment will drop the curtain on the first trailer for Super Mario Bros. To celebrate the event, a special Nintendo Direct will be shown at 1:05 PM PT / 4:05 PM ET. For the first time in the format, Nintendo has explicitly stated that the presentation won’t contain any video game coverage, so viewers shouldn’t expect to see any information about upcoming Nintendo Switch titles, or anything beyond information about the new movie. However, the show should be more than exciting enough for most Nintendo fans!

Readers planning to watch the Nintendo Direct when it goes live can find it in the embedded video below.

When the Super Mario Bros. movie is released. In April, it will be nearly three decades since the character last appeared on the big screen. A live-action adaptation starring Bob Hoskins was released in 1993, and was a critical and commercial failure. The movie had little to do with its source, and Nintendo has mostly avoided adaptations of its features since then. Things are clearly changing in this regard, and the company has stated time and time again that it’s working more with the Mario movie than Illumination. Hopefully today’s trailer offers something closer to the character’s roots!

Of course, Super Mario Bros. has already proven a bit controversial thanks to the casting of Chris Pratt in the lead role. Many fans are disappointed that Charles Martinet won’t voice Mario, and some are nervous to hear Pratt’s opinion. Pratt’s voice as Mario will be the most dissected thing after the teaser is released, and it’s hard to say how the actor would perform in the role. For now, fans will just have to wait and watch, but it won’t be long until we all find out more about the movie!
