One such discovery was a new evolution of Girafarig called “Farigiraf”, a Pokemon that evolved from Girafarig that lives in the Paldea region. While we’ve taken an in-depth look at this and all of its abilities, many Pokemon have been teased without being fully revealed at this time.
Known as the “Long Neck Pokemon”, Farigiraf is both natural and psychic and has increased psychic energy due to the fact that his two brains are now more closely connected due to the fact that the two heads of the Pokemon became one as soon as he evolved. This Pokemon also introduces completely new abilities to the series: Cud Chew and Armor Tail.
“Farigiraf’s ability, Cud Chew, is a new ability to debut in these titles,” reads a preview of this first new ability. “When a Pokémon with this ability eats Berry, it will eat it again at the end of the next turn.”
The other possible ability it could possess, Armor Tail, has to do with the head that was previously on its “tail” and is now attached to the main giraffe’s head. The brief bio of the Pokémon said that the head from the tail shuts off its mouth to allow Varigraph to strike its neck “in an attack that inflicts brutal physical damage”, so it appears that Armor Tail plays out this defensive nature of this technique.
“Farigiraf’s ability, Armor Tail, is another new ability to debut in these titles,” the preview read. “It makes opposing Pokémon unable to use priority moves.”
But Varigraph wasn’t the only new Pokemon mentioned in the trailer. While he got most of the focus, the scene right after Farigiraf’s show showed the player walking around with a mini map in the lower right corner. With this mini-map, we’re seeing several new Pokémon on the radar, though the Pokémon Company appears to be saving their full disclosure for another day.
