That game ended with Batman apparently killing himself or faking his death, but the two games take place in different universes. The end may have inspired the direction of the World Bank Gotham KnightsBut it wasn’t the only inspiration.

When speaking with Chris Killian of ComicBook.com, Gotham Knights Executive Producer Fleur Martyr and Game Director Patrick Redding discussed the comic books that helped inspire the game. In particular, The Court of Owls’ story inspired the game’s overall story, but the team looked closely to determine the protagonists’ directions. Redding noticed that the team looked Batgirl from Burnsidesome of Red Hood’s recent solo comics, Detective Comics about the Bell Tower, and more.

“The Batgirl from Burnside Redding said Run certainly informed us about our treatment of Barbara. “I want to say that some of the recent single-book events of Red Hood have allowed us to delve into the ambiguous controls of that character that informed some of the game-design choices we made. If you want to go down the rabbit hole, there’s a relatively recent series from Detective Comics. [within the last 10 years] Which focuses on Belfry and the idea of how to expand the operations that Batman brings to Gotham City to incorporate other heroes and rehabilitate the villains. We really liked the atmosphere of it, it drew on some urban horror that we wanted to deliver, but also brought a lot of character into the mix. There are a bunch of stories like that.”

So far, we’re still waiting to see how exactly Gotham Knights It will be received, but the ComicBook came out feeling positive about it after a hands-on preview recently. The team also recently discussed what it’s like to write for several heroes and how this changes the different scenes in the game.
