University of Arizona hydrology professor shot to death in campus’ Harshbarger building; former student Murad Dervish in custody!

Tucson, Arizona – Campus police said a professor was shot and killed on the University of Arizona campus in Tucson on Wednesday.

The campus police chief said a professor in the hydrology department was shot dead by a former student. Police said the suspect was Murad Darwish. The professor is not recognized.

University of Arizona Police Chief Paula Pallavas said during a news conference that Darwish, 46, was arrested after a traffic stop by the state’s Department of Public Security near the town of Gila Bend.

Police said the suspect used a pistol.

Palavas said the victim was taken to a local hospital but medical staff pronounced him dead.

Police responded to the John W. Harshbarger building on the campus with “firing fire,” University of Arizona police He said on Twitter After 2 p.m. local time on Wednesday.

Police did not issue any closure but warned people to stay away from the building and the surrounding area.

University of Arizona police said that “the male suspect had an ID but is no longer around. The police are currently looking for him,” describing the suspect as being in his mid-30s with short brown hair, wearing a blue baseball cap and carrying a dark backpack.

Police said all remaining classes on the school’s main campus were canceled Wednesday.
