Americans are taking pumpkin spice sales to new levels!

New York, — Americans go out of their squash in search of pumpkin spice.

Nielsen data reveals that Americans spend about half a billion dollars on pumpkin spice products each year.

From the popularity of Starbucks’ pumpkin spice latte to the annual introduction of new pumpkin-related products, like Hefty’s pumpkin-scented trash bags.

Starbucks alone is said to sell 20 million pumpkin spice lattes annually.

According to the coffee giant, the company’s favorite pumpkin-flavored drink had its best sales week ever when the drink was reintroduced to fans on August 30.

“There is no practical reason to put a pumpkin in your coffee cup, put it on the front ramp, sweeten it and put it in your pie,” said Cindy Ott, historian, college professor, and author of Pumpkin: The Strange History of an American Icon. “But those modern traditions actually go back to a much older tradition of associating a pumpkin with a small family farm. The perfect kind of small family farm in American life.”

The brightly colored crop seems to hold a special place in the hearts, minds, and wallets of Americans.
