The launch of a new EA app will replace Origin

The days of Electronic Arts games launching on PC via the Origin app are approaching. EA announced this week that the company’s new app (“EA App”) is out of open beta and ready to be used by all. It’s faster and more reliable than Origin, EA claims, and that means Origin will eventually be replaced by its successor.

For those of you who may not even know that EA’s app was in beta at all and were using Origin regardless, EA announced the next plans for PC players this week and talked about some of the improvements that EA can be proud of.

“Today, we are pleased to announce that the EA app has officially left its open beta phase and will soon replace Origin as our primary PC platform,” EA said. “EA’s app is our fastest and lightest PC client yet. With the new streamlined design, you’ll easily find the games and content you’re looking for and discover your new favorite games. With automatic game downloads and background updates, you can make sure your games are ready to play when they are.”

He also shared more information about how people will be able to move from Origin to the EA app while keeping games as they are. EA said it will invite people to “make the move soon,” but no dates have been set as to when those invitations will be sent out. EA has reassured users that both local and cloud saves as well as friend lists will also be ported over, and you’ll still be able to link Steam, Xbox and PlayStation accounts as usual.

For those who want to go ahead and get the app to go through the final invite phase that EA is planning, you can Download it here. EA did not specify in the blog post when the Origin app will be discontinued, but in the format separate function Within forums related to this topic, the EA Community Manager confirmed that “Origin will eventually be fully sunset.”
