The Shelved Prince Documentary by Kevin Smith “Finally We’ll Go See the Light of Day”

I talked about him famously in his book An Evening with Kevin Smith DVD In 2002 writer/director/monk Kevin Smith once shot a documentary focused on and produced by Prince…and like so many things created by the late Grammy Award-winning artist, he’s never seen the light of day. Smith told the full story of how this documentary came to be, his many moments with the artist, and how he did not sign a non-disclosure agreement in the widely released Q&A. In a new interview, Smith confirmed that his documentary will “finally see the light of day” in some form in the future.

When asked by readers Watchman What are the chances of releasing the film, Smith replied: “Very high. Director OJ: Made in America He makes a documentary for Netflix, and he comes home to interview me. When they went to the vaults after Prince’s death, they found a lot of unreleased music and many music videos, but the only shots of him talking is what I filmed. It’s unusual: he’s behaving differently than he’s been doing all his life, talking for hours upon hours. Looks like he’ll finally see the light.”

Director Smith refers to the Academy Award winner and Ezra Edelman. Details of the documentary itself are largely unknown although it was previously reported that Ava DuVernay would direct the project but later left. Edelman’s involvement hasn’t been confirmed by Netflix, so Kevin may have left this bug out.

The plan, Smith tells her, was to hold a listening party with Prince fans at Paisley Park Studios for his then-next album.

Despite his reluctance to take on the project, Smith eventually agreed despite the fact that the film would have overt religious overtones, something Smith had previously indulged in. creed (which made him hesitate). Smith also revealed in evening with that at the time it was believed that about 20% of the attendees knew who he was and was baffled by the fact that “Silent Bob” was working with Prince.
