In addition to being a file creator spawn And one of the co-founders of Image Comics, Todd MacFarlane’s love for baseball is also well documented. Previously, the writer/artist has paid the top dollar for the top three home runs of Major League Baseball, paid more than $2.6 million for Mark McGuire’s 70th home run, and over $517,000 for Barry Bonds’ 73rd home run, reportedly 175,000 dollars for Sami. Earlier this week, New York Yankees fielder Aaron Judge netted his 62nd home run, smashing 61-year-old Roger Maris’ record in one MLS season, bringing another hugely valuable ball to market.

When speaking with ComicBook.com at New York Comic Con, we asked Todd what he thinks the ball could bring, and whether he plans to be present if he makes his way to the auction. “I can probably smell the edges,” MacFarlane revealed. “It’s an MLS record, right? So it’s not an MLS record, I have this. And so I kept saying, as long as he’s 65, what does it matter to me? Because he still keeps my three balls well.”

He continued, “But he’s a Yankee player, here in New York, somebody is going to overpay for that ball I think. There are people writing the story saying, ‘OK, it’s the clean ball and that’s the real record and whatever else. But I just think there’s going to be a law firm’ You want that ball in their office lobby and they’ll go, I don’t care. Go buy it, go get it from now on. The guy who grabbed the ball in Texas, we don’t know if he’ll sell it or not, how long he’ll wait, what he’s going to do with it. So it will be It’s interesting to know his decision. It’s a big news ball.”

As Todd explained to us, there was no “million dollar balls” before he “overspent” on McGuire’s ball that ran home. Since then, many speculators and collectors have assumed that record-holding baseballs are almost immediately worth a million dollars.

“It’s not really,” Todd adds. “So you must have something really, you must have almost had a unicorn moment with what the judge did here and almost won the Triple Crown.”
