Does Apple AirPods Pro 2 support lossless audio playback?

Apple launched AirPods Pro 2 back in September 2022. The second generation version includes some decent upgrades that first generation users might appreciate. These new earphones include Find My Case, Apple Watch charger support, and the enhanced H2 chipset. The H2 chip enables a new adaptive transparency mode and stronger Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). The first allows you to hear ambient sounds, minus loud noises. Meanwhile, the latter is allegedly twice as effective as the first-generation model. If you are planning to buy AirPods Pro 2, you must be wondering – does the H2 chip also allow for lossless audio playback? Here’s everything you need to know about this in particular.

No lossy audio support on AirPods Pro 2

Unfortunately, AirPods Pro 2 does not support lossless audio playback. It seems that Apple doesn’t mention the highest audio quality it supports. However, it definitely does not include lossless audio support. This means that you will be limited to lossy and compressed audio formats. This is completely expected – since Bluetooth connections are not reliable for lossless format delivery. However, not many people can distinguish between lossless music and lossless music. So this may not make much difference to you.

AirPods Pro 2 supports Dolby Atmos content. This means you can listen to compatible music and TV tracks with spatial sound. It also supports head tracking – so audio playback adapts to the way you move your head. This makes the listening experience infinitely more immersive. This is especially true when Active Noise Cancellation is enabled. By isolating yourself from the real world and enabling spatial sound through head tracking, it feels like you’re actually in the recording studio. It’s not a lossless sound, but it’s certainly realistic.

AirPods Pro 2 support active noise cancellation, Dolby Atmos content, and wireless charging. They pack a lot of offers, despite their compact build.

Will you buy AirPods Pro 2, or does the lack of lossless audio playback support a deal? Let us know in the comments section below.
