Did the NFL Concussion Controversy Affect Tom Brady’s Controversial Call?

Skip Bayless argued that Tom Brady got the controversial bystander’s call due to the NFL concussion controversy with Tua Tagovailoa.

The NFL just revised concussion protocols after controversy over allowing Tua Tagovailoa to return to play after showing signs of ataxia, or poor body control, following an injury.

Now, players are automatically disqualified from play if they show signs of imbalance or tripping after a suspected head injury. That’s why Dolphins quarterback’s Teddy Bridgewater was not allowed back on Sunday even though he cleared his concussion check.

Another aspect of the game may be affected by the situation with Tagovailoa: the austerity of the corridor.

Did Tom Brady get a ‘Twa call’ after concussion controversy in the NFL

Against the Hawks, Tom Brady was twisted by a defender on his way to the ground. It was vaguely similar to the intervention that caused Tagoviloa’s second head injury. Skip Bayless wondered if it was a “Tua call.”

“Little Scotty Miller just blatantly slammed into Brady’s deep ball – no call. You could argue he got a make-up call in the next play – ragged on Grady Jarrett. But Jarrett knocked Brady to the ground and hit his head on the ground. A Tua call,” Bayliss tweeted.

It is important to note that Brady did not actually hit his head on the ground. He fell on his shoulder.

However, it is an interesting theory given the similarities in the interventions.

Then there is the question of whether the rulers are right to call it that way.

Honestly, it sounds like a bad call.

The NFL may have emphasized protecting quarterbacks from hitting their heads on the ground but defenders should be notified.

Furthermore, this kind of rule modification is incredibly unfair to defenders who can’t actually go up or down as a quarterback. If a player can no longer bring down a quarterback as Grady Jarrett did, the NFL should put flags around QB’s waist and call it the day.

Maybe it was Tua’s call. Or maybe it was just Brady.
