Kanye West’s anti-Semitic comments condemned by the Anti-Defamation League

After posting anti-Semitic posts on social media, Kanye “Ye” West faces criticism from the Anti-Defamation League and other Jewish organizations.

In a joint statement Sunday afternoon, the Anti-Defamation League denounced the rapper’s recent comments, calling them “dangerous” and directing readers to sources to identify and combat anti-Semitism.

“Strength. Loyalty. Greed. God Killer. Blood. Denial. Anti-Zionism. All of these are anti-Semitic tropes we detailed in the #AntismismUncovered guide,” the Anti-Defamation League reported. I have influenced many of these legends [Kanye West’s] Comments recently, and that’s serious.”

West recently faced account restrictions on both Instagram and Twitter due to violations of each individual platform’s guidelines and policies.

West’s Instagram restrictions came first. On Friday, the rapper shared a screenshot of a message he allegedly sent to rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, in which West wrote, “Emma is using you as an example to show the Jewish people who told you to call me that no one can threaten me or influence me. I told you that this It was a war.”

Although Instagram did not mention the specific content that violated its policies, which led to the decision to restrict West’s account, the post featuring the text conversation has since been deleted.

After Instagram was restricted, West quickly took to Twitter, posting anti-Semitic statements. In a now-deleted tweet because it “violated Twitter rules,” West wrote: “When I wake up, I’m going to die [sic] 3 con on the jewish people. The funny thing is that I actually can’t be anti-Semitic because blacks are actually Jews too. You have manipulated me and tried to get rid of anyone who opposes your agenda. “

A Twitter spokesperson confirmed that the company had restricted Kanye West’s account, although, as with Instagram, there was no identification of any specific posts that caused the decision.

Creative Community for Peace, a pro-Israel nonprofit focused on the entertainment industry, issued a statement of its own Sunday condemning West’s comments.

“In the past week, Yi spread some of the most outrageous and outdated stereotypes about Jews to his hundreds of millions of followers,” the group wrote. There should be no place for this kind of hate in our public discourse. We support every artist’s right to freedom of expression, but no one has a free pass to target and defame a minority group with such malice.”

“We are deeply concerned about the impact of Yi’s comments – and how they will affect his fans, especially young people,” CCP continued. “At the same time, we hope this is a moment that finally creates a better awareness about the dangers of anti-Semitism for Ye, his fans, and other artists. We remain open to dialogue with him about how harmful and misleading his comments are.”

The American Jewish Committee, an advocacy group that describes itself as the “global center for the defense of Jews and Israel,” chest In an earlier statement on Friday condemning West’s comments.
