Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain as Launching First Sight of George Jones and Tammy Winette

Paramount George and Tammy The miniseries is set to debut later this year and now, we’re getting our first look at Jessica Chastain and Michael Shannon as they take on the roles of country music icons Tammy Wynette and George Jones on the series. The six-episode series stars Steve Zahn, Kelly McCormack, Katie Mixon, and Walter Goggins, and is directed by John Hillcott. The series will tell the story of Wynette and Jones, referred to as Mr.

In a new series of first look photos, share it Vanity FairFans learn about Chastain’s transformation into Wynette as well as Shannon’s transformation into Jones. Chastain first signed on to the project in 2011 when it was first shot as a feature film. Chastain said Vanity Fair That she was fascinated by Wynette’s personal and professional life.

“It was great to me that someone like Tammy Wynette, who sang all these songs like ‘Stand by Your Man’ also got married five times,” she said. “I was excited for this woman who was married and divorced multiple times and struggling in Nashville and really made a name for herself. She charted the chart a few times before she met George Jones.”

Shannon also revealed that while he was not familiar with Jones prior to the project, he was “tempted” by the story.

“Honestly, I wasn’t familiar with George Jones,” Shannon said. “I’m not a huge fan of country — I’m a fan of jazz, really — but when it caught my eye, I was seduced by the whole thing. It’s a tragic story, but it’s also very romantic.”
