Showcase the seventh week of the top 25 college football rankings after Alabama barely escaped Texas A&M, Ohio State, Tennessee and Georgia, and more.

Even with a number of teams in the AP rankings of the top 25 college football taking the weekend, there was plenty of drama in the sixth week of the 2022 season. With the likes of Alabama, Tennessee, Utah and many more in potentially difficult confrontations, there was A recipe for chaos.

In terms of actual disturbances, there wasn’t much. Kentucky lost without Will Leavis to South Carolina, Washington fell hard to Arizona, Notre Dame knocked out BU, then UCLA beat Utah. But there were plenty of other invites nearby around the country that should make people think about ratings.

So, where do things stand now? Let’s check out AP’s rankings of the top 25 predicted college football for our Week 7 survey.

AP expected to be top 25 college football rankings after Week 6: No. 25-21

25. Cincinnati Bearcats

For almost the entire Bearcats game against South Florida, it looked as if Cincinnati were going to lose their second loss of the year. But credit goes to Luke Fickell’s team and the return of Charles McClelland in particular for rising to the occasion and providing a late drop to take the team to 5-1 on the season, which wouldn’t knock them out of the top 25.

24. Illinois Fighting Illini

Playing Iowa is never going to make for a nice game because that’s what the hockey team wants. When Tommy DeVito of Illinois gets injured, it gets even more gruesome. But Eleni has moved up to an impressive 5-1 mark on the season now with the win over Iowa and secured a spot in the Top 25 thanks to the work they’ve put in this season so far.

23. Baylor Bears

In all honesty, it’s hard to blame Baylor so much for the losses they’ve taken so far this season. Yes, BYU may not be as good as previously thought, but cougars were much healthier and more comfortable at the time. Meanwhile, a loss to Oklahoma State, a top ten team, would have gone her way as well. The Bears were on vacation on Saturday but they got a bump looking at the situations around them.

22. Utah Utes

While I’m not a big fan of having two losing teams ranked within the top 25, I wouldn’t fault Utah for two losses. They lost in the final match of the season opener against Florida and then fought valiantly on the road against an undefeated UCLA team. There’s nothing to be scoffed at and I’m willing to cash in on the Utes’ bounce again by keeping them inside the top 25.

21. James Madison Doakes

It’s really a shame that James Madison has jumped into the ranks of FBS this season, making them ineligible for both the Sun Belt title and the football game because the Dukes were completely in control. They moved to 5-0 this season with a 42-20 win over Arkansas State, and that undefeated record is enough to get them into the top 25 where they belong.
