Xbox Game Pass has become a hot topic over the past few years, and there has been a lot of guesswork about how well the service will work for Microsoft and developers. Although Xbox hasn’t directly provided the public with any new numbers, Game Pass returns for 2021 have been revealed by the organizers of the Brazilian Administrative Council for Defense Economics (also known as CADE). Earlier this week, the group indicated its approval of Microsoft’s proposed purchase of Activision Blizzard along with a document that uses industry data to support its findings. In the document, CADE notes that Xbox Game Pass generated $2.9 billion in revenue in 2021.

According to the same report, Xbox generated total revenue of $16.28 billion last year between hardware, software, and Game Pass subscriptions. One of gamers’ biggest concerns about Game Pass is that it could have a negative impact on actual game sales. Mike Rose recently from No More Robots revealed on twitter who – which Let’s build a zoo More than 250,000 Game Pass players have seen it since they first appeared on the service at the end of September. Rose also noted that several Game Pass subscribers have told him that they tried the game on Game Pass and then went on to buy it on the Nintendo Switch. Xbox obviously prefers to keep these users on its own platform, but the anecdote goes that Game Pass helps sell games, no matter what platform they’re sold on.
