This was the most fun thing to do, and I couldn’t talk about any of that pre-press, so it’s very nice to be able to talk about it now. I absolutely loved it, and it sounds super cocky – but here we go, that’s what the actors are – but I loved shooting the scenes myself because of the challenge of that. I wrote some of those scenes.
Benedict Cumberbatch played four versions of Doctor Strange in Doctor Strange in a multiverse of madness, where the aforementioned two are joined by Stephen Strange who is killed at the beginning of the film in front of America Chavez, and later at Earth-838’s Strange, who is executed by his Illuminati teammates. Corrupt Strange attempted to kill his benefactor counterpart, but Our Stranger emerged victorious and sent his opponent down to his death.
With Sam Raimi at the helm, Doctor Strange in a multiverse of madness It was filled with plenty of horror, and if you find the scenes with Corrupt Strange particularly frightening, thank Benedict Cumberbatch for that. During the interview, he talked about how he worked with Remy and writer Michael Waldron to tease this part of The multiverse of madnesssaying:
I suggested it should get darker at some point. There was more of a saccharin version at one point and I’m really happy with the way it has evolved. Sam Raimi had a huge role in that, and Michael Waldron supported me to write it as well. We turned what had been a very small fight between the two of them into a kind of very strange and original battle at that moment. I really loved him. This was how the original was shown to me long ago when Scott Derrickson was still working with us: Strange was going to meet copies of himself. It was something I wanted to go into. We could have gone further, and perhaps even further into the future. Who knows what other releases we might need in the MCU’s multiverse chapter? But it was so much fun to play with all my variants.
Marvel has certainly not finished exploring the multiverse, as evidenced by Phases 4-6 of the MCU collectively called The Multiverse Saga, which will conclude with Avengers: Secret Wars In the year 2026.
