With the movie now out in theaters, fans finally got their answer.

Warning: Major spoilers below for the end of Halloween

during the closing The end of HalloweenMichael Myers is permanently dead, although there is a lot to untangle about the ending directed by David Jordan Green.

For the majority of the movie, Michael Myers isn’t much of a threat to anyone, having taken refuge in the sewers in the years since the events of Halloween kills. When Cory (Rohan Campbell) accidentally kills a babysitter, he becomes a town outcast. At one point, the bully saw him dumped over a bridge, where he was found and taken to Myers’ lair. While Myers initially attacks Cory, then leaves him, with Cory then inspiring to kill those who wronged him, eventually stealing Myers’ mask to do so.

The majority of deaths occur at the hands of Cory in Myers’ Mask, until Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) confronts him. After being injured, Corey kills himself, killing one of the “Michael Myers”. However, the real Michael Myers emerges, pitting him against Laurie in a severe confrontation.

During the match, Laurie manages to pin Michael to a kitchen island using knives in his hands before dropping a refrigerator on him. When she cuts his throat, he manages to free his hand to choke her, and while Laurie incites him to do so, her granddaughter Alison (Andy Matichak) arrives to thwart him. Michael’s wrist is then cut, and his wounds eventually cause him to bleed.

Myers’ confirmed death isn’t enough to make the experiment definitive, as his body is then transported through the streets of Haddonfield, Illinois until his body reaches the landfill. Once there, he is dumped into a garbage compactor that allows the audience to see his body completely destroyed, confirming that the killer is unequivocally dead. However, since that’s definitely not the end of the franchise, we can’t rule out Corey returning in a future installment.
