Robbie Coltrane dies: Harry Potter star dies at 72!

Robbie Coltrane, who played a forensic psychologist on the TV series Cracker and Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, has died.

Scottish actor Robbie Coltrane, who played a crime-solving psychologist in the TV series Cracker and half-giant Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, has died. He was 72 years old.

Belinda Wright, an agent for Coltrane, said he died Friday in hospital in Scotland. She did not give a reason.

Coltrane is best known as a violent investigator on the 1990s series Cracker, for which he won Best Actor at the British Academy Television Awards three years in a row.

He played the gentle half-giant Hagrid, the mentor of the boy wizard, in all eight Harry Potter films, released between 2001 and 2011.

Other roles include a Russian crime boss in the James Bond suspense films GoldenEye and The World Is Not Enough.

Coltrane has garnered rave reviews for his role as a lovable TV star who may be hiding a dark secret in the 2016 miniseries “National Treasure.”

Wright said that “in addition to being a great actor, he was forensically smart, brilliantly intelligent, and after 40 years of being so proud to be called his agent, I’ll miss him.”

Wright said Coltrane was survived by his sister Annie Ray, his ex-wife, Rona Gemmell, and his two children, Spencer and Alice.
