Shooting North Carolina: What we know about the victims killed and injured by Raleigh shooter!

Raleigh, North Carolina – Five people were killed and two others were seriously injured Thursday evening in Mass shooting in Raleigh.

Raleigh police said, on Friday morning, that these five were the victims who died in the shooting:

  • Nicole Connors, 52
  • Susan Karnats, 49
  • Mary Marshall, 35 years old
  • Gabriel Torres, 29
  • James Thompson, 16

The other two were infected and remain on WakeMed:

  • Marcel Gardner, 59
  • The 15-year-old suspect

Two of the victims were police officers.

Gabriel Torres was an off-duty officer and formerly a Marine. He was married and had a young daughter. He was on his way to work when he was killed.

“This is a very traumatic event for our officers and I,” said Estella Patterson, chief of RPD. “I was immediately shocked by what happened.”

Casey Joseph Clark, 33, is a K-9 therapist who was wounded in the shooting, but has since been released from the hospital.

The victim, 16-year-old James Thompson, was a junior at Knightdale High School.

“This is a very difficult time for our school community as well as for the wider Raleigh community,” School Principal Keith Richardson Written in a statement to parents. He went on to say that advisors and a crisis team in the area will be available on campus for the next week to support anyone who needs help.

Susan Karnatz is married and has three children, ages 10, 13 and 14.

Mary Marshall was engaged to marry. She was also just 10 days shy of her 35th birthday.

Her fiancé, Robert Steele, said she was shot and killed while walking her dog.

“She was really nice, always nice. Whenever we got packages when we weren’t home, she would put them in our house and leave a note on the door. Go upstairs, you know?” Neighbor Sherwin MacDonald said of Marshall.

Nicole Connors’ husband said ABC11 He found his wife and dog Sami shot dead in the street. One of the neighbors was injured and was lying on the ground next to them.

The ABC11 crews are gathering more details about all the victims and will continue to update this article and share their stories during the evening news.

“There are many families in our community waking up this morning without their loved ones,” said Mary Ann Baldwin, Mayor of Raleigh. “No one can imagine what they are all going through.”

Investigators said the 15-year-old suspect was a male.

Investigators said the shooting began around 5 p.m. Thursday near the Neues River Green Road in the Hedingham neighborhood near Osprey Cove Drive and Bay Harbor Drive.

The horror of the active shooting lasted several hours, as police carved out a two-mile stage to contain the situation.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m., the 15-year-old was taken into custody at Old Melbourne Road and McConnell Oliver Drive. He had life-threatening injuries when he was brought in — by Friday morning, investigators said he was in critical condition at WakeMed.
