The first episode of the new Netflix show breaks the scary world record

Mike Flanagan’s new TV series midnight club Only on Netflix today, but the Guinness Book of Records has already given the filmmaker the record for “most jump scares written in one TV episode.” diverse. He was given the award during the series panel at New York Comic Con, where the organization representative claimed that the series’ premiere included 21 trope cases. Interestingly, Flanagan himself thought the confession was ironic, claiming that it was often given a note for incorporating more jump scares into the stories he tells.

“This is especially important to me because I hate jump scares and I think they are the worst,” Flanagan said during a press conference earlier that day. “Throughout my career, people have been like, ‘Put more jump scares, do them faster!'” “

The filmmaker’s reaction to being told to include more jump scares was to lean heavily on a metaphor that embraced the extreme opposite end of the spectrum.

“The notes were really coming from, ‘It’s time to do the jump scares.’ So I thought we were going to do it all at once, and if we did it right, the jump scare would be meaningless for the rest of the series and we were going to destroy it and kill it, finally, until he died,” he admitted director. “But that didn’t happen. They were like, ‘Great!’ More of these! So, my whole career I haven’t talked about jump scares as a concept, and now I want to make sure it gets stuck in me as much as it has to do with the show and Netflix and whoever caused it on everyone, I now have my name in the Guinness Book of World Records for jump scares, which I mean, the next time I get the remark I can say, “As the current world record holder in horror games, I can tell you I don’t think we need one here. And that’s my whole strategy.”

Despite how effective this on-screen tactic is, Flanagan noted that he’s not exactly intimidating on set.

Filming a jumping horror movie is absurd, Flanagan admitted, “because out of the frame everyone is just waiting to do the horror.” “We should have the kind of fun I didn’t have at work.”
