Tax Rebates: What is the deadline to file taxes in Illinois and get a check up to $400?

MIllusions residing in we. Illinois is set to receive payments of up to $400 under the tax rebate plan the state announced last September.

The cashing of these checks began on September 12, 2022 and is scheduled to continue throughout October.

However, the deadline to file your taxes is October 17, which means you may need to act quickly to receive your payment.

How much are you entitled to?

Individual taxpayers who made less than $200,000 within the past year will receive a $50 deduction.

Spouses who applied jointly and earned less than $400,000 are entitled to $100 while saving another $100 per dependent, up to a maximum of three in total.

Some taxpayers can get up to $400, but that is subject to their tax filing status and number of dependents.

Who is eligible?

There are two main criteria for determining eligibility:

Individuals must be residing in Illinois in 2021 (even if that is part of the year)

They must have an adjusted gross income in 2021 of less than $200,000 if presented as a single person, or less than $400,000 if presented together as a couple, and finally

They must file returns by October 17 to be eligible for checks.

“This $1.8 billion tax break is possible because Democrats have balanced the budget, eliminated backlogs, funded schools, fixed roads — and through responsible fiscal decision making — we still find ourselves with a one-time surplus,” the governor JB Pritzker He said about the initiative earlier this year.

“There are those who might have sent this money directly into the pockets of the 1 percent and the big companies rather than working families, but that’s not what good government does.”
