What Freddy Freeman said about eliminating the Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers were wiped out by the San Diego Padres in the NLDS, and first policeman Freddy Freeman spoke out about it.

The Los Angeles Dodgers were eliminated from the playoffs by the San Diego Padres on Saturday night. The Dodgers were the favorites to advance, but the underdogs ended up in the lead.

Los Angeles’ first policeman, Freddy Freeman, spoke about the matter and said, “Baseball in October can be brutal,” according to Bob Nightingale of USA Today.

Freeman is right. It’s definitely crazy to think that a team with the best record in the 2022 season and one of the best regular season records ever was defeated by their opponent, but the underdogs in this case definitely have a lot of talent.

October baseball can be brutal indeed, and anything can happen. Both teams deserved a place in the playoffs, but it’s great to see San Diego get a chance at World Championship glory.

The Padres, overcoming their greatest rival, the Dodgers, is a major achievement

The Padres are a much smaller market team than the Dodgers and they don’t have nearly as many resources. They struggled to maintain consistency during the regular season, and not many saw them able to beat a team like the Dodgers in a five-game streak.

However, they used what they could during the season to set themselves up for success. One of the biggest moves they made was the acquisition of Juan Soto on the trade deadline. Soto was the biggest target and rejected what would have been the biggest stretch in MLB history ($440 million), so this was definitely a statement of what they could do from a front office perspective.

They surprised almost everyone by knocking the Dodgers out of the playoffs. After going 89-73 in 2022 and finishing 22 games behind Los Angeles, it seemed almost guaranteed that they wouldn’t get past the NLDS. It’s one of the many reasons why baseball in October is amazing.

San Diego is now only one series away from the World Championships. They haven’t been close to winning the championship since 1998, their last World Championship appearance. They will definitely be fun to watch as the playoffs go on and take on the Philadelphia Phillies for the pennant.
