The Marvel Cinematic Universe in the age of Daredevil.
After being briefly reintroduced in last year’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home” – when Dardevil’s alternate character, Matt Murdock, dropped Mysterio’s phantom murder charges against Peter Parker – to much fan excitement, actor Charlie Cox is finally back. To appear in the final episodes of “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” on Disney+.
It was the long-awaited comeback of Cox, who first donned a Daredevil suit in Netflix’s inaugural Marvel series in 2015, but she’s relegated to staying short of a flirtation with Marvel hair. It was a different time back then: Before Disney+, Netflix had the series “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist,” and “Defenders,” but the characters only mentioned the big-time MCU players. by name and they never crossed paths with them. Cox’s Daredevil was by far the most popular, running for three seasons before being canceled in 2018. Until Disney brought him back for this short in Spider-Man: No Way Home, as Peter Parker’s attorney.
Now, Cox has appeared in the final two episodes of “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” which concluded on October 13. He has his own follow-up series “Daredevil: Born Again” in 2024, as well as a voice role in the animated show “Spider-Man: Freshman Year”. There are also rumors that he will appear in the Disney+ series “Echo” next year, alongside villainous Vincent D’Onofrio “Daredevil” Kingpin, who also returned to the MCU last year in “Hawkeye.”
Not only is Daredevil back, but he’s got a new yellow and red suit, inspired by the classic Marvel comics. He may also have a new love interest in Tatiana Maslany’s attorney Jennifer Walter, aka She-Hulk. The two teamed up to take down the nasty villain Leap-Frog, then a more intimate team up at Jen’s apartment.

How did you feel when you saw ‘She-Hulk’ viewers clamoring for a daredevil in every episode?
I’m not on social media, so I didn’t know any of that stuff. It wasn’t until a friend of mine told me that day. Was there an Easter egg? And everyone thought he would appear sooner than he did? And people were really excited, and then didn’t it? or something like that? I just know that. When episode 8 came out, my 16-year-old nephew was staying at my house. He was on Twitter and Instagram, and he handed me the phone and showed me these comments and tweets I was getting. I don’t like to go too deep into it because it’s a bit of a rabbit hole, but I did it for a minute. Lots of excitement, lots of love and funny emojis.
What do you think of Daredevil’s new yellow suit?
When we were getting ready to shoot, they took me to LA to put on a proper suit, which I just assumed was to make sure the old suit still fit. You have appeared in this repository. Hanging in a bag on a railing was my suit that I recognized as the one I had worn at the show before. While I was waiting, there was a computer generated drawing on the wall of another superhero. I was looking at her, like, “Oh, that guy is cool.” And then I looked more carefully, and said, “Wait, that’s me.” It was a show of this gold and red suit and I was like, “Oh my God, that’s so cool.” It’s a huge tribute to some of Daredevil’s earlier work. I get goosebumps thinking about this moment, I put it on and the reaction of the fans.
Where do you think Matt and Jane’s relationship will go?
I don’t like to speculate. I’ve learned over the years that when you get excited in an interview and talk about things that could happen, the problem is that they get littered on the internet. People talk about it, and if it’s a good idea, you end up ruining it for the masses. The only thing I will say is that I very much enjoyed working with Tatiana. She’s an extraordinary actress, and the chemistry of the characters was really strong. There’s more fun to be had there, so whether we can go on that trip a little longer and our lives can collide again, I don’t know but I would definitely support that, if it could.
What is the biggest difference between the Netflix and Disney + versions of Daredevil?
We’ve never had a chance to explore how powerful comics are in comics. Daredevil at its core obviously works best as a show geared toward a more mature audience, but even the most serious life has comedic moments. I felt like this was a really good opportunity to put Daredevil in a world where there’s so much fun to be had, it’s more fun, tongue in cheek. It was a really great experience, both for me and for the character, to see how we fit into this world. It was just a matter of freeing up a little and letting myself as an actor go toe-to-toe with Tatiana and make sure Daredevil didn’t become the butt of the joke because he’s so serious, to make sure it’s his cuteness, charm, and wit. I don’t know if this plays into what we’ll be doing next year with “Daredevil: Born Again,” but it was definitely a fun experience.
What came first, your role in “She-Hulk” or “Daredevil: Born Again”?
I found out about “Daredevil: Born Again” maybe a few days before it was announced at Comic-Con. I knew there was a project in progress, but I didn’t know what it was. When I first heard of Kevin [Feige] In June 2020, the two things he mentioned are “Spider-Man” and “She-Hulk”. He said then that we have to see what comes next.
and “Daredevil: Born Again” 18 episodes. How will that differ from what we’ve seen before?
It’s crazy. I have no idea; Your guess is as good as mine. Just in terms of shooting, that would be really hard physically and that would be a challenge in itself, which I’m excited about. It’s a bold move. The lawyer’s personality does well with that. There are plenty of stories to tell, outside of the superhero element.
Will we sooner bring Daredevil back in ‘Echo’?
I don’t know if I can provide more details on that.
Are there any cast members in particular from the Netflix series “Daredevil” that you’d like to share the screen with again?
It has been an absolute pleasure working with everyone on all those shows at Netflix. They were the beating heart of all those shows. I am honored and happy to work with any of them again. I hate to single out anyone and I hate to speculate because I don’t know what the plan is going forward. This is way higher than my salary grade. There are so many great stories to tell. There are stories to tell again. It wouldn’t conflict with what they do in the comic book world. Often a new writer and artist will take over a book and they will start from the beginning. So maybe we will, but I really don’t know. I am so glad I was invited to the party.
