Everything Alex Anthopoulos said about Braves’ off-season decisions

The Atlanta Braves have a tough off-season test, but what does general manager Alex Anthopoulos think of it?

Anthopoulos did a masterful job of crafting this Braves team in his image, signing a number of big-name players before entering their walking year. This fact was fundamental as it relates to signing the aforementioned players at less than market value.

The likes of Matt Olson, Ronald Acuña, Ozzy Albis, Austin Riley and others will achieve more than what their current contracts suggest on the open market. Instead, Anthopoulos locked them in early.

The rejecting person was Dansby Swanson, who will be a free agent for this season. Swanson put in a great performance this year, going to the “Sheriff” of the Atlanta Club. It would be a great loss, in the style of Freddy Freeman, if he left the brave.

What did Alex Anthopoulos say about the Braves Offseason?

Anthopoulos expressed disappointment with the way the Atlanta season ended, in a similar way to Brian Snicker, but he was also looking to the future. For Swanson, Anthopoulos wants to keep him in Atlanta, if possible:

“It’s getting better every year,” Anthopoulos said. “You can look at his stats and he was always a good teammate, but I think he rose to new levels. I told him that too. I was impressed with him across the board. He is a good teammate as you will find him.”

Anthopoulos also pointed to some previous reports about Swanson’s contract negotiations, saying that’s true.

Only mentioned reports indicated that Swanson wants to return to Atlanta, and that the Braves would like to host him.

Anthopoulos fails to comment on the possibility of a reunion, which is smart to agree, especially after what happened with Freeman last winter.
