After years of epic highs and lows, The CW’s Riverdale about to finish. Why RiverdaleThe last season in the fifties?
“At various points in the season, we talked about what last season could have been, and many people were very nostalgic when the kids were in high school,” show director Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa previously said of the 1950s development. “KJ Apa told me at one point, ‘Man, remember when we were in high school, and I was on the soccer team? And Mark Bedowitz of The CW had a conversation with John Goldwater and he said something like, “Do you remember when the kids were in high school?” We talked about it in the room, and we were kind of, oh, my God, can we go back and bring everyone back to high school? But we did. They had been in high school for over four years. It would seem like a repetition. So, we were in trouble.”
He continued, “I felt like all we were going to do for season seven was sort of a lesser version of our high school years. But thinking about nostalgia and then coming out of our super, legendary, Stephen King-like season, we knew we needed to make our last season really special.” One thing everyone can agree on is that when we have our characters in their famous comic strip outfits from the 1950s, people are happy. [Sprouse] He was so glad he never had to wear a beanie again, but he said to me, “But, man, I’ll wear this crown until the day I die.” So, we thought: What if we went back to high school, but instead of high school nowadays, we made it high school in the 1950s which is what a lot of people think of Archie’s characters.”
