Warning: This article contains spoilers for the final episode of House of the Dragon… Sunday night witnessed the arrival of the second to last episode of Dragon HouseThe very successful first season. The entire episode dealt with the repercussions of King Viserys’ death, and how the line of succession to the Iron Throne would change. This is exactly what people expected to see in the episode, but perhaps it was a bit surprising that the entire penultimate episode of Season 1 went without two of the show’s most iconic and important characters.
Sunday’s episode, “The Green Council,” takes place entirely in King’s Landing, where Aliscent Aegon II is crowned the new King of Westeros. Rhinera, the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, is completely missing from the episode. Shaitan, her uncle’s husband, is also missing. Despite being at the center of the show’s story, and some of the most important parts of the story mentioned, they don’t appear at any point. There is a reason for that.
Where were Rhaenyra and Daemon in episode 9?
Towards the end of last week’s episode, Rhaenyra mentioned that she would be taking her family to Dragonstone before returning to King’s Landing on her own, in order to spend time with Viserys and Alicent. So her whole family is making their way home when the events of the “Green Council” take place.
It makes sense that Rhaenyra and Daemon aren’t in King’s Landing, but Game of thrones It wasn’t often a franchise that stuck to just one location. The point is likely to be emphasized at the conclusion of next week.
Each side of the Battle of the Iron Throne reacts to the death of King Viserys quite differently. In order to show how Alicent and Otto worked to get Aegon to the throne behind Rhaenyra’s back, the episode needed to focus solely on their efforts. Viewers got a chance to see exactly how everything happened in King’s Landing once Viserys passed.
Much of Egon’s rise depends on careful planning and movement in the shadows. Reinera’s claim to the throne is much simpler. Her father told her she would succeed him, so she felt his death meant she should be queen. For her, things are that simple. A dedicated loop would not be needed just for decision making in order to help explain her side of things.
When does House of the Dragon have an epilogue?
Believe it or not, “The Green Council” is the second to last episode of Dragon HouseFreshman season. The final will air on Sunday, October 23 at 9 PM ET. The episode will air on HBO and simultaneously air on HBO Max.
