Peripheral filmmakers craft an all-new sci-fi world (exclusive)

With the development of Lisa Joy Westworld And the memories And Vincenzo Natale after I went out cubeAnd the paste or collect, and assorted TV series, it’s no exaggeration to say that the pair are well-versed when it comes to developing ambitious new worlds in the realm of science fiction. The duo recently collaborated on the Prime Video series Peripheralwhich required them to introduce audiences to some familiar elements of the sci-fi world, but also gave them unique opportunities to establish that world as something that even the most devout fan had not. Peripheral Premieres on Prime Video on October 21.

Natalie shared to ComicBook.com when discussing the creation of the series “Well, I’m a geek, and so I’ve been around the genre for a long time, and so I’m pretty intent on not repeating things.” Attractive fashion. “I think this was one of the exciting opportunities for Peripheral It is presenting not one, but two futures that I don’t think we’ve really seen before. to get out of Blade Runner The Cyberpunk model and look at something completely different, but perhaps more logical. With London, I think the fun in that was creating a beautiful future. It’s not dark and cumbersome. It is amazing in terms of how cultural and beautiful it is. However, it does have that stealthy quality, to an extent that also inhibits it. So that was the joy from a conceptual design point of view.”

He continued, “But it’s really, at its core, a human story. And with Lisa and Jonathan [Nolan] And Scott Smith, our writer and creator, built a human story. What I was doing was just background to it. I think it has a strong emotional entry point with Flynn and also with Wilf in the future, and no matter what, you’re drawn to him because you care so deeply about these characters.”

Peripheral Focuses on Flynne Fisher (Chloë Grace Moretz), a woman trying to piece together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America. Flynn is smart, ambitious, and doomed to failure. It has no future. Until the future comes calling her. Peripheral It is a dazzling hallucinatory glimpse into William Gibson’s stories about the fate of humanity – and what lies beyond.

In addition to the series’ unique visual style, Gibson is considered the founding father of cyberpunk, with Joy pointing out what makes his worlds different from the other stories she’s brought to life.

“The same thing that makes William Gibson great and unique is the same thing that makes it so hard for him to adapt, in terms of his future…He’s basically a prophet. He always gets it right. So nobody needs to read horoscopes anymore. I don’t need to go To a psychic. Just call William Gibson or tweet him maybe, and he’ll tell you what’s going to happen to you,” Joy recalls. “The thing is, its future is fully realized, built entirely from the ground up, and it’s stretchy and detailed. And when that goes into production, we’re talking expensive, hard to get all that scale and all that nuance on screen.”

She added, “Fortunately in this we are dealing with a talented and visionary director like Vincenzo, who is also this amazing visual artist. He is very visual in everything he imagines. And also our visual effects team. The great thing is that technology for photography has evolved to facilitate Realizing some of that vision when directed in a way that allows for that kind of world-building, and so we’ve had the perfect opportunity to finally resurrect William Gibson in the way he deserves.”

Peripheral Premieres on Prime Video on October 21.
