Vet Carol Mendelson signs first look broadcast deal with Fox

Carol Mendelssohn and Julie Weitz of Carol Mendelssohn Productions (CMP) signed a multi-year, direct-to-air deal with Fox Entertainment.

This was announced by Michael Thorne, president of entertainment at Fox Entertainment, during MIPCOM Cannes. Under the agreement, CMP will develop written dramas for Fox. If any shows are green lit, they will be wholly owned by Fox with executive productions by Mendelssohn and Weitz.

CMP has already prepared one project for development under the agreement – a series adapted from Thomas Berry’s novel The Bomb Maker. According to the official recording, the series “follows ex-Commander Dick Stahl, who is recalled after the majority of the House Bomb Squad were killed. On the first day of his return, the three-man team is now dispatched to a suspected car bomb, and it quickly becomes clear to him They are dealing with an extraordinary criminal mastermind – whose intended target appears to be the bomb squad themselves.”

The search is currently underway for a writer to adapt the book to the screen. This is Mendelsohn’s latest attempt to adapt “The Bomb Maker”, as the project was pre-made at Fox in 2017 but eventually didn’t move forward.

“Carol is one of the greatest, most influential and longest-running architects of television dramas,” Thorne said. “Together with Julie, we have two of the most talented and respected producers in the industry; we are excited to bring their creativity and strong storytelling to Fox, beginning with their development of ‘The Bomb Maker.’ , while giving them creative flexibility and a direct relationship with our network and programming team, two rare commodities in today’s market.”

“There was an instant meeting of minds when Julie and I sat down with Michael Thorne and Brooke Bowman,” Mendelsohn said. “This is a unique creative opportunity for us and we are excited about our new partnership and all its possibilities.”

Best known for her work on CBS’s “CSI” franchise, Mendelsohn has served as a presenter and executive producer on the Mother series and co-producer and executive producer on “CSI: Miami,” “CSI: NY,” and “CSI: Cyber.” She also produces “CSI: Vegas,” which recently started its second season on CBS.

Mendelssohn is represented by WME, TFC Management and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
