Silent Hill fans have been longing for a new movie for a very long time. Video game company Konami avoided making any announcements about the franchise for nearly a decade, and the last movie adaptation to hit cinemas, 2012’s Silent Hill: Revelation, was described as a fiasco. Now, the Japanese company has announced a slew of new video games, as well as a new Silent Hill movie coming next year.

Return to Silent Hill was announced during the video game company’s Silent Hill event earlier this week, with director Christoph Gans speaking candidly about his new project.

The French director, who directed the original 2006 film, has revealed that Return to Silent Hill will be based on the popular 2001 video game Silent Hill 2.

Ganz presented some of the artistic concepts of the film, Which can be viewed belowwhile discussing how he will ensure that the film will be “loyal” to the franchise.

He said, “New Silent Hill script [is] Completely independent of the two previous films that were made and respectful of the way Silent Hill has developed.”

Gans reassured fans that he uses “maximum humility and utmost respect” to bring this beloved story to the big screen.

He continued, “Silent Hill is a bit like Twilight District, the fourth dimension, a place where anything and everything can happen. I’ve worked on the new Silent Hill which is Silent Hill of 2023 since the movie came out after that. Year… in 2023.” …and not Silent Hill as I imagined it in 2006.”

Gans also spoke candidly about the future of the franchise’s biggest and most feared enemy: the top of the pyramid.

Kans affirmed:[Pyramid Head] exists in this! Before we add that some of the other monsters in the movie will be making returns as well.

“Some creatures from 2006 were very much appreciated by fans,” he said. “But at the same time for me it was important to come back with a surprise.”

Currently, no one is officially cast in the upcoming movie, but Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood responded to news of the trailer with a curious emoji. Could he be the new hero?

Return to Silent Hill is scheduled for release in 2023.
