Chelsea Handler to host the 2023 Critics’ Choice Awards on January 15

Comedian Chelsea Handler has signed on to host the upcoming Critics Choice Awards, scheduled for January. The announcement means the streak is over for Taye Diggs, who has hosted the show for four consecutive years — including in 2022, with Nicole Byer.

The 28th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards will take place on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at 7 p.m. ET, live (for Eastern and Central time zones, late in the West) from the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. After simulcasting last year on TBS, this year it looks like the concert will once again be a CW exclusive.

Handler is a host vet, and the E! “Chelsea Lately” for seven years. At Netflix, she starred in the documentary series “Chelsea Does” as well as the 2016 talk show “Chelsea”. She has also written six New York Times bestselling books, including 2019’s “Life Will Be the Death of Me,” which is also being adapted into a television series for Peacock under the production banner, Chelsea Handler Productions. Handler will executive production and appear on the show.

Most recently, her own movie “Chelsea Handler: Evolution” aired on HBO Max in 2020, and the accompanying album earned her a Grammy Award nomination. She also launched a how-to podcast “Dear Chelsea” for iHeartRadio, toured the country with her latest work, and earned a win at the People’s Choice Awards.

“We all know and love her work as a professional comedian, bestselling author, podcast host, and actress — and now as host of the Critics’ Choice Awards,” said Joey Berlin, CEO of the Critics’ Choice Association. “I know this is going to be the best year yet and I can’t wait for everyone to see what we have in store.”

The 28th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards, honoring both film and television, will be produced by Bob Pine Productions and Berlin Entertainment. CCA is represented by Dan Black of Greenberg Traurig.

Other upcoming Critics’ Choice Association events include the 5th Annual Black Film and Television Celebration on December 5; 2nd Annual Latino Film and Television Celebration on November 13th; The first-ever Asia Pacific Film and Television Celebration will take place on November 4th. These are all also in Fairmont Century City.
