Warriors star Klay Thompson attacks retirement ‘rumor’ in NSFW fashion

Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson has criticized a supposed rumor that he may retire after the 2024 season.

Klay Thompson’s contract with the Warriors expires after the 2024 season. Consequently, some have suggested that he could retire, rather than pursue another deal at Golden State or elsewhere.

Thompson refuted those suggestions at a news conference Thursday.

“There is a report there . . . I have no intention of retiring in 2024,” Thompson said. “If I write something stupid like that, just question it. It’s crazy. Just because I didn’t play 5-on-5 doesn’t mean I’m going to quit. It’s ridiculous. That’s all I have to say.”

Thompson has another NBA title, and only a few seasons of major knee surgery has been removed. While his health is always in question, that doesn’t mean he’s thinking of ending his sneaks anytime soon.

Warriors: What report was Klay Thompson talking about?

Clay Thompson appears to be referring to comments made by San Francisco Chronicle sports writer Connor Letourneau on a radio appearance. Now, to be fair to the current writer, Letourneau didn’t say Thompson would definitely retire. He only mentioned the possibility and gave his opinion on the matter, which is very different from having a report from a source.

“The truth is Clay has two more years on his deal,” Letourneau said. “Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised if Clay retired from basketball at the end of the decade.

“I don’t think it will be between this season and next season. If he retires in the near future it will be after his contract expires. He has had no interest or desire to talk about extensions, although he is eligible for an extension at the moment.”

Thompson’s harsh criticism stems from misunderstandings in the process. Letourneau’s job is to form opinions based on his sources. He knows this team well. However, he did not categorically say that he hears anything about Thompson’s future.

We will fix this until the connection breaks down.
