Most people think ants have strange, bizarre faces – large orbs on either side of their head, with a fuzzy antenna protruding from the middle. This is how science books have always made it seem in school – and it’s definitely a design concept that movies love Baby I shrunk the boys and (recently) Ant-Man from Marvel Film franchise always with. However, as time and science have advanced, we have been able to get a better and better view of the microcosm around us – and when it comes to ants, that insight was truly terrifying.

This week, social media has been lighting up with reactions to a photo taken by a nature photographer Eugenius Kavaliauskas, which focuses specifically on macro images of small insects. Eugenius’ picture of an ant’s face was a shocking contrast to what most people thought ants looked like becoming a global headline.
