MLB Cubs coaches give another reason to keep Ian Hub

Chicago Cubs quarterback Ian Haup has reportedly been one of the favorites for this season’s commercial deadline, but other coaches and coaches in the league may have given the team a reason to hold on.

This season, Chicago Cubs were expected to be the sellers on the trade deadline. Two of their best players who could get a decent return are catcher Wilson Contreras and defensive player Ian Hap. The duo hugged during what would have been their last home game at Wrigley Field before the trade deadline. However, the Cubs decided to keep both instead once the deadline passed.

Happ has another year left on his current deal with the Cubs before he reaches free agency. Other MLB managers and coaches seem to have given the organization a reason to keep him.

On Thursday, Rawlings revealed the finalists for the annual Golden Glove Awards, and Hub cut down the left field in the National League.

Haup reached the final round alongside David Peralta of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Christian Yelich of the Milwaukee Brewers.

For those wondering, Golden Glove winners are chosen by the managers and six coaches from among their staff. per RollingsManagers and coaches cannot vote for their players, and they can only vote for players in their league.

This is an important point Rawlings makes regarding how the finalists and winners are selected. Votes are given to those “for overall field excellence, which is not an award based solely on field metrics and statistics, nor does it affect aggressive production.”

Happ had a fantastic 2022 season, earning the All-Star title for the first time in his career. In 158 games, Hap averaged 0.271 hits, 342 on base, 0.440 slowdowns, 17 home runs, 72 RBIs, and 155 hits.

With Hub contracted for the 2023 season, it will be interesting to see how the Cubs handle the upcoming Hot Stove season. Plus, will Happ participate in the next campaign with a golden glove added to his resume?
