Black Adam towers over the global box office with a $140 million opening

Dwayne Johnson’s superhero adventure “Black Adam” grossed $140 million in its worldwide debut at the box office, including $73 million overseas.

Warner Bros. reported. That Black Adam, which debuted in 76 regions, is the number one movie in almost every market. Outside of North America, where “Black Adam” also took the top spot with $67 million, the largest markets were the United Kingdom with $6.1 million, Mexico with $5.3 million, Brazil with $4.9 million and Australia with 4.7 million. dollars, and France with 3.7 million dollars. In similar markets and using today’s exchange rates, “Black Adam” ticket sales are 27% ahead of those of “Shazam!” for 2019, and it’s another origin story for DC’s superheroes. “Shazam,” which cost $100 million, earned $366 million globally.

Warner Bros. spent $195 million to produce “Black Adam,” so the comic book adaptation needs to keep playing on the big screen for some time to justify its massive price tag. Although it generated poor reviews, audiences seemed to like the film, which received a “B+” CinemaScore score in the US.

Jaume Collet-Serra directed “Black Adam,” in which Johnson plays a modern-day anti-hero after nearly 5,000 years of imprisonment. His evil tendencies attract the attention of the Justice Society of America, whose members are Hawkman (Aldis Hodge) and Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), who try to teach him to be a good man.

Elsewhere, Universal’s romantic comedy “Ticket to Paradise” with George Clooney and Julia Roberts came close to bringing in $100 million globally. It’s a huge standard for a literary genre that has been omitted as dead, at least in the theatrical sense. However, Ticket to Paradise, with a healthy dose of star power, is defying odds with $96 million in ticket sales to date. It cost 60 million dollars.

Internationally, the film added $4.7 million from 78 markets over the weekend, taking its tally to $80 million. High-income regions include Australia ($9.8 million), the United Kingdom and Ireland ($9.43 million), and Germany ($9.43 million).

Another box office winner, Paramount’s R-rated horror movie “Smile,” added $10 million overseas in its fourth weekend of release. The film has already grossed $81.9 million internationally and $84 million in North America, which is a massive hit considering its $17 million budget.
