Nick Saban is being dragged by college football fans to start Jermaine Burton

Alabama coach Nick Saban faces criticism from college football fans after Jermaine Burton started despite his actions towards a Tennessee fan.

Jermaine Burton made headlines last week when videos surfaced of him appearing to attack a Tennessee fan who was rushing onto the field after the Volunteers win.

Alabama coach Nick Saban told reporters the program was looking into the incident but said the punishment would be dealt with internally.

That penalty did not extend to the football field, it seems. Burton started against Mississippi State on Saturday as if nothing had happened.

Saban said that Burton is in an anger management program.

However, college football Twitter was completely unimpressed that Saban did not suspend Burton over the incident.

College football Twitter slammed Nick Saban over Jermaine Burton’s start

The video clip of Burton hitting a Tennessee fan is clear enough that he should have faced massive punishment. Yes, fans are not allowed to rush into the stadium but there is no justification for a player to attack a bystander like that.

It wouldn’t cost Alabama much if Burton sat for a quarter, a half, or a full game. She is loaded with talent in the wide receiver.

Not only did Saban fail to send a message. He sent quite the wrong message by giving Burton a head start. Even just lowering his step to the bench would have been a more appropriate reaction.

Burton had one catch for 23 yards in the first inning against Mississippi State. He added another 17 yards in the third quarter. Alabama enjoyed a 24-0 score after two quarters.
