New Video Makes Nick Saban Not Commenting Jermaine Burton Look Worse

Nick Saban’s decision not to suspend Jermaine Burton looks worse after a new video showed a clearer image of an Alabama WR attacking a Tennessee fan.

Nick Saban has had a illustrious career as a college football coach. But it’s also proof that even the best coaches can be blinded by poor decision-making.

Alabama wide receiver Jermaine Burton was caught on video hitting a Tennessee fan who rushed onto the field after volunteers upset the tides. The Alabama coach chose not to punish the player in any visible way.

Burton was fit to play and even started against Mississippi State over the weekend. Saban tried to excuse his receiver by saying he was scared as he walked off the field.

A new video of the incident largely refutes it as an excuse.

New video explaining why Nick Saban commented Jermaine Burton

Burton communicates with a few Tennessee fans as he walks off the field. At the 19-second mark, he attacked the fan, who was literally jumping out of his way to avoid him.

She did not pose any threat to him. It sure didn’t look like he was afraid at that moment.

Saban missed the mark by not sitting Burton in a match, half or even one quarter for his actions.

Teams are fined when their fans rush into the stadium due to the potential hazards of the activity. Fans cannot be allowed to endanger athletes. But players also have to take responsibility for their actions towards the fans who enter their spaces. College football coaches shouldn’t send the message that it’s OK to take a shot at any fan they have on hand.
