Winona Ryder had a fierce feud in Hollywood over the ‘stolen’ script | movies | entertainment

Today, October 29, 2022, is Winona Ryder’s 50th birthday. The extraordinary Hollywood star has wowed her fans over the past few decades starring in great gothic films like Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands, before also turning her hand to such dramas as Little Women and Autumn in New York. But she made some enemies along the way. None of it has been a bigger problem for Winona than Iron Man star Gwyneth Paltrow.

Ryder and Paltrow became fast friends in the ’90s after the Hollywood press dubbed them the Girls of the Decade.

After her strong relationship with Johnny Depp ended in 1993, Ryder began partying with Paltrow – who was making a name for herself at the time in films like Seven and Emma.

By the mid-’90s they were great friends – but everything was about to change.

It all fell apart when it was reported that Ryder was cast as Viola de Lesseps in the 1998 romantic drama Shakespeare in Love. Soon, disaster struck after a deceptive act took place at Ryder’s house.

The story goes that Paltrow went to Ryder’s house to hang out, before seeing the text of Shakespeare in Love on her table.

Various reports claim that Paltrow either “stealed the script” or later called her agent and had her get an audition for the same role.

No matter what event happened, Paltrow was successful in seizing the role. To make matters worse, the film was so widely loved that it won seven Oscars — including Best Actress Gong for Paltrow.

Of course, this ploy meant that Ryder and Paltrow were no longer friends and soon fell out. Years later, she denied any wrongdoing towards Ryder.

Paltrow reportedly continued, “This person really did what he could to hurt me. I was so upset, I was angry, I was feeling all those things I felt when I found out that someone you thought you loved was toxic and dangerous. I was so upset. I tried to resist. I tried To take the highway.”

Then the actress added some key details that may have revealed that she’s been talking about Ryder the whole time.

She wrote, “But one day I heard that something unfortunate and humiliating had happened to this person. My reaction was deep relief and…happiness. There went the highway.”

This specific newsletter was released just a few years after Ryder was arrested in 2001 for theft.

The Stranger Things star was convicted of intercepting $5,000 worth of designer clothes from Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills.

She later opened up about the incident saying, “Psychologically, I must have been in a place where I just wanted to stop. I wouldn’t go into what happened, but it wasn’t what people thought. And it wasn’t. Like the crime of the century!”

Paltrow later revealed, in 2015, that she hadn’t spoken to Ryder for “years.”
