Penguin Random House / Simon & Schuster merger blocked by judge

A federal judge has blocked the purchase of Simon & Schuster’s highly anticipated Penguin Random House. The merger would have united two of the country’s largest book publishers.

according to The New York Times, the decision was made Monday by order of Judge Florence Y. Bane, who heard the case in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Pan stated that the merger would “significantly” hurt competition in the US market for potential bestsellers.
