Deckbuilding reveals game details and release date

The Star Wars universe is expanding once again, this time venturing into the faraway galaxy in the world of deck building with Star Wars: The Deckbuilding Game from Fantasy Flight Games! Fantasy Flight Games previously announced the game but did not release any further information, and fortunately they have now pulled the curtain not only on how the game will be played but also when it is expected to be released. Star Wars: The Deckbuilding Game is a game for two people, and you will control either the Galactic Empire or the Rebel Alliance as you strengthen your forces and try to eliminate the bases of other players, and you can get the game when it is released in March 2023.

The object of the game is to get rid of your opponent’s three bases, and you each start with a starting deck of 10 cards themed on the faction of your choice. You’ll mostly start with cards that generate resources, and you’ll use those resources to buy new cards from the Galaxy Row, which will go to your trash for you to draw in the future.

To destroy your opponent’s bases, you will use the cards in your hand that have an offensive value. You can follow their rules directly, but since the Empire and Rebel cards in Galaxy Row are divided into different sections, you can also attack your opponent’s cards in Galaxy Row to keep them out of their hands, which is referred to as Bounty Hunting or Sabotage depending on which class you play. If you choose to go this route, you can send their card to the disposal pile and also claim the reward, a real win-win scenario.

To aid your defenses, you’ll also find major ships in the Galaxy Row, such as Rebel Transports and Imperial Carriers. Once purchased, Capital Ships remain in play and are not eliminated, and if your opponent wants to destroy your bases, they must cross any large ships first, which is on top of any special abilities these units may have.

As for the bases themselves, once your starting bases are destroyed, you can choose from other bases that have unique abilities, although your starting bases don’t come with these extra powers. Meanwhile, the game also works on force analysis through force path balance. Some cards will have powers that summon power, and you can only use them if the power sign is favored toward your side of the path by the exact amount that the ability requires. Plus, if the force path is all the way to your side when the turn starts, you’ll get an extra resource for that turn, so there’s more incentive to pay attention to where it is.
