Selena Gomez teases new music and talks to Cole Sprouse’s childhood crush

Selena Gomez is preparing to give the world a closer look at her time in the spotlight with her documentary Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me. The film follows the singer, actress, and producer on a six-year journey as she navigates the stresses of fame as she struggles with lupus, depression and anxiety.

Gomez became candid during the documentary’s premiere at the AFI festival on Wednesday night, noting that she was not deterred by the idea that the film would open her up to further scrutiny.

“When I’m completely honest and transparent about what I’ve been through, there’s nothing they can honestly say that will affect me,” Gomez said, miscellaneous Mark Malkin on the red carpet. “I am who I am and everyone is about to see it. That’s what I got.”

Gomez also shared the hard feelings she had when she looked back at shots of her as a child star in the documentary.

“Being able to see and watch that version of myself again broke my heart, knowing I was that girl at all,” Gomez said. “I wish I could hug that version of myself. But I feel it was important to share because I wanted people to start talking about it.”

The former “Wizards of Waverly Place” actress also expressed some mixed feelings about being described as a “Disney kid” early in her career and the stress that came with this enduring interest.

“I didn’t necessarily have to be upset with Disney itself. That was what the label was – being a ‘Disney kid.’ My experience was great, but the title just went on and hurt my feelings,” Gomez shared. “I just want to get over it already. I don’t want a doll myself in the target. I just don’t. It’s a bit weird.”

Gomez has also been honest about her childhood crush on Cole Sprouse. My Mind & Me features footage of a young Gomez expressing her feelings for the fellow Disney Channel star, though the actress maintains that she did not share those feelings with the actor.

“I think he’s cool. I hope he doesn’t think I’m weird,” she said.

Finally, Gomez gave a teaser for her fans, saying that new music is coming “hopefully next year.” and tour? “I could! I know. I should, right?”

Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me appeared on Apple TV+ on Friday.
