Dave Chappelle returns to host

During tonight’s all-new episode of Saturday Night LiveComedy channel NBC has confirmed its host and musical guest next week, revealing that comedian Dave Chappelle will return to host the show with musical guest Black Star appearing as well. This is Chappelle’s third time as host of the series, as well as the third time the show has hosted an episode after a major election in the United States. Chappelle previously hosted the show on November 12, 2016 after Donald Trump was elected president, and then again on November 7, 2020 after Joe Biden’s victory over Trump. The stand-up comedian has also won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series both times.

Previous episodes of Chappelle as host were largely political jokes, as one might expect given the timing, but the comedian also made sure to point out a few other things as well. His 2016 episode featured a parody of The Dead in which he re-enacted several characters of the Chappelle Show. Depending on how the midterm elections rock this week, the show could go one of two ways, festive or gloomy, Chappelle has already hosted both versions as well, essentially ensuring that he’s actually nominated for an Emmy.

Chappelle’s return to Studio 8H marks the second week in a row that the host has returned to the show. Before Schumer’s episode tonight, the new season had pretty much first-time hosts including Miles Teller, Brendan Gleeson, Megan Thee Stallion, and Jack Harlow/
