In this guide we’ll take you through the best PvP designs for each sub-category of Hunter, along with the best weapons and exotic items to give you the competitive edge.

Arch – Arcstrider

Arc 3.0 brought back the previously iconic Nightstalker ability, eyelash, As an Arcstrider ability, and with this sub-class focused on aggressive play within melee range, this version will use Blink to allow you to stand up to your opponent.

Basic stats to build: Mobility, recovery and strength

For you, Arcstaff is a great roaming service. Use Marksman’s Dodge because it has less idling, which helps you play neutral. As mentioned, this version uses Blink as a jump. If you’re not familiar with playing Blink, you may feel incredibly weird and confused. I highly recommend spending some time in the PVE patrol areas to get a feel for it. One of its main uses in this build is to blink behind or over opponents, so you can focus on this in practice. For Melee, Combination Blow is your best choice because the low cooldown and health recovery when killed can save your life a lot. For grenades, your best option is the Flux Grenade. Aspects: Deadly current and flow stats. Fragments: Beeps, resistance, recharge, and feedback all give you powerful stat boosts and make you become a god in melee range.

Some type of gun is almost mandatory for this build, as you have many ways to outwit and kill your opponents in close quarters. The Chaperone is a great cool Slug, Wastelander, Riiswalker, or no-regrets legendary choices. You can pair this with an SMG or Hand Cannon of your choice.

Gemini Jesters are a powerful alien option for this build, as dribbling will confuse and clear the radar of nearby enemies (the range on this effect is probably greater than you think), which means you’ll have a more advantage up close. The Wormhusk Crown is another powerful option, as healing often gives you the advantage to win 1 on 1 duels. Stompees will improve your entire neutral game but don’t directly synergize with this build.

Solar – gunslinger

The Gunslinger has one of the best roaming subclasses among the Hunter subclasses, and its other abilities support a variety of play styles. In this build, we will focus on the extremely powerful Tripmine bombs.

Basic stats to build: Mobility, recovery, discipline

For your super team, choose Golden Gun: Deadshot, a great roaming game that we will be increasing the duration of through our aspects. Marksman’s Dodge is our top choice for all-round neutral game features. For melee, you can use either the Weighted Throwing Knife, which the OHKO can use when necessary, or the Explosive Proximity Knife, which is similar to another Tripmine. Your grenade should be a Tribmen’s bomb. This is a cornerstone of the design and there are multiple uses for it, from exclusion zones and walkways to punishing riflemen. Aspects: Hit your mark. Fragments: beams, burning, explosion, burning, singing. These parts will boost your main stats while giving you class and melee energy from Scorch effects.

The choice of weapon can be up to you, but any weapon with the Demolitionist feature will match directly to the design. You can also play Bomber mods on your shield to give you more grenade energy. The strange key to this construction is the backbone of Young Ahamkara. This enhances the damage and damage radius of the mine. It also recovers 33% of the grenade’s energy each time it takes damage with an ability. If you are skilled in placing grenades, you can throw mines and detonate them a lot.

Stagnation – Revenant

The Revenant may have lost some of its insane power from its early days, but this design still offers a tremendous amount of map control and damage potential with powerful Duskfield grenades.

Basic stats to build: Mobility, recovery, discipline

Marksman’s Dodge used this build. Your grenade should be a Duskfield Grenade. These have a large radius slow action that also gives you Stasis crystals that improve your flexibility, and this can be broken for Grenade Energy. Your shards will enhance all of these effects, giving you powerful control over the map and making you very difficult to kill. Sides: Shatterdive, winter touch. Shatterdive isn’t the dominant ability it was before, but it still does great damage and gives you powerful movement.

Fragments: whisper of chains, pieces, endurance. Refraction or frost are good options, too. All of your shards are designed to match your slow abilities and the stasis crystals you spawn.

This version runs mostly from mid to close range, so Sidearms like Forerunner, Peacebond, SMGs, and Hand Cannons are great weapons to use.

The Mask of Bakris has excellent synergy with this design to enhance its mobility and to deal increased 10% damage to opponents slowed by grenades and your abilities.

Void – Knight Stalker

The Nightstalker is arguably the best subclass of Hunter currently in the top-level Crucible, and has a number of amazing tools at its disposal, with Invisibility being the lead. Whether it’s the Trials or the 6’s, Invis continues to give Hunters a huge advantage in PVP, where jumping over enemies is often enough to secure a kill. This version is a favorite in experiments that increase the value of your smoke bomb.

Basic stats to build: Mobility, recovery and strength

We start with Shadowshot: Deadfall as Super. This has a low enough cooldown that you can reliably get in longer matches, and his ability to suppress and tether can be critical to securing points capture or team kills. Dodge for this build can be either Marksman’s or Gambler’s. The first is best for neutral play and personal invisibility repetition, and the second will allow you to repeatedly apply Invis to your teammates. The melee for this build should be a Snare Bomb. Aspects: Select the Trapper snare and the fading step. This will allow you to use your smoke bomb with your Invis teammates and allow you to go to Invisible on Dodge. Fragments: The persistence echo will give you a longer duration of Invis effects. You can offset the mobility penalty with other parts like stretching. Echoes of elation, despotism, and instability are also useful.

The weapons of this build can be very flexible. You can dash into enemies with a shotgun or use your intimidation to get long range kills with snipers or weapons like Lorentz Driver. Khepri’s Sting is one of the most popular Exotic Armor options. This will give you Truesight when you throw a smoke grenade at yourself to give you and your teammates invisibility. It also fires an insta smoke grenade when it hits an opponent in combat, allowing you to take out a disoriented opponent or run to safety. Gryfalcon’s Hauberk is a strange new product that instantly became one of Nightstalker’s best options, as it provides a 15% damage increase when you become invisible.
